Top Tips: Planning The Perfect Surprise Birthday Party

By on Oct 22, 2015 in Party Inspiration |

Attending a surprise party is super exciting – everyone loves that moment when the guest of honour first realises what is going on. However, planning a surprise party is no easy feat – it can be incredibly daunting.

Not only do you have to organise the whole thing, you also have the added pressure of making sure that the birthday girl/boy doesn’t find out about it – everyone can tell when someone is faking a surprised face.

As a company who specialises in party bus hire in Essex, we’ve been involved in a few surprise birthday parties over the years. Because of this, we have picked up some very handy tips and trick – and we thought we would share them all with you!

#1

Make sure there is no possible way for them to find out

The most important part of a surprise party is…keeping it a surprise! Oddly enough, it’s just not the same if the surprisee finds out about it beforehand. Therefore you have your work cut out to make sure that no clues are left where they can potentially find them.

Sending out invitations? Make sure they aren’t left out in the open where they can easily be seen. We think it’s easier to send out texts or make a private Facebook group – just hope they don’t go snooping.

#2

Give yourself plenty of time to plan

Unless you’re super organised, don’t leave yourself only a week to plan the party. It’s likely that you’ll have to do it a little bit at a time, so it may take longer than a normal party would. We suggest starting the planning at least a month or so before, even if this is just sending out invites and/or planning the theme and location.

#3

Specify an exact time for when people must arrive by

There is nothing worse than turning up to a surprise party late. For the person who has arranged it, it’s frustrating that people can’t make the effort to be there on time to join in with the big reveal.

To avoid this happening, you should make it clear that the guests must arrive at a certain time and no later! We think it should be at least half an hour before the guest of honour.

#4

Create a believable distraction

How are you going to get the birthday boy/girl to the party? All your hard work will be for nothing if you can’t find a believable way to get them out of their house and all dressed up! You could take them out for a meal or even arrange a “night out” so that they are in the partying mood! When you’ve got the message that everyone is in place, you can move them along to the chosen location!
